In a press conference held in Beirut in the presence of the WFP Director in Lebanon, Abdallah al-Wardat, Najib Mikati said that “the WFP Executive Board decided, in its last meeting in Rome, to allocate 5.4 billion dollars to Lebanon over the next three years.” This new aid will be “divided equally between Lebanese and Syrian refugees,” the same source added.

Abdallah al-Wardat said that WFP “will continue to provide emergency aid, in food and in cash,” assuring that the aid will help “one million Syrian refugees and one million Lebanese” between the years 2023 and 2025.

Lebanon has been hosting about two million Syrians since the beginning of the war in Syria in 2011, while nearly one million are registered with the UN as refugees.
