The Higher Education Syndicate denounced the ministry’s suspension of negotiation. In a statement issued by its Sectoral Coordination Council, the syndicate described the ministry’s decision as authoritarian, saying it opens the door to unilateral and bureaucratic measures.

The American University of Beirut Workers and Civil Servants Syndicate denounced the attempts to “impoverish citizens and their pension funds”, as well as the “bankruptcy of the state.”

Secondary school teachers in Jezzine, governorate of South Lebanon, went on strike on 19 December to call for the payment of their salaries.

Within the framework of the Iraqi government’s preparation of the 2023 budget and its intention to allocate financial aid for the tenure of contractual teachers, the Iraqi Teachers’ Syndicate stressed that lecturers are entitled to be tenured within the Iraqi Ministry of Education.

The Sudanese Teachers Committee decided to close all schools in all governorates of the country throughout the month of December, as part of the strike launched by teachers to pressure for a salary increase. Thousands of teachers entered a strike with at the beginning of December in 18 governorates.
