The Syndicate of Medical Professions held a protest in front of the headquarters of the Presidency of the Government in Tripoli on 6 February to call for the payment of salaries that have been blocked for over seven years.

In a media statement, the member of the Doctors Syndicate, Wael Alany, said that during the last five years, the number of Iraqis who leave abroad for medical treatment has doubled due to the deterioration of medical services in the country.

The workers at Kaedi Hospital (south) have been waiting for their payments for nine months.

The Bekaa Governorate Hospital Workers’ Syndicate has called on the authorities to respond to the demands of employees that include a salary increase and allowances such as social assistance, back-to-school allowance, and productivity grant.

The Iraqi Pharmacists Syndicate confirmed, on December 8, that the job market in the public and private sectors will not be able to receive all the graduated pharmacists and that it is expected that their number will reach 100,000 throughout the country in 2025, according to the Iraqi Ministry of Health.
