Constitution

ATUC Constitution This constitution was adopted and ratified during the founding conference of the Arab Trade Union Confederation in 2014, and was refined during the second conference in Marrakech in 2018.

Mission

  • Defending the right of all workers to organize and practice their freedom freely, and encourage the building of democratic and independent trade union organizations that work in a transparent manner.
  • Working for unifying the Arab democratic trade union movement; to face the various emerging challenges and support the paths of democratic transformation in the Arab countries.
  • Promoting to social justice and democracy, the equitable distribution of wealth, good governance, the pursuit of social progress and the guarantee of decent work, and the decent life of different people's groups.
  • Developing labor relations in order to ensure the basic rights at work and to promote the economic and social conditions of workers
  • Defending human rights and advocating for and promoting public and individual freedoms, including trade union freedoms, including the right to organize, freedom of expression, peaceful demonstration and strike.
  • Achieving equality and eliminating of all forms of discrimination on the basis of sex, color, religion, language, social, cultural or geographical origin.
  • Defending the right to equality, the right of women to assume positions of responsibility in employment, in representative institutions and in the leadership of trade union organizations, and the eliminate all forms of discrimination and violence against them.
  • Defending the economic, social and cultural rights of all workers in the Arab region and adopting the principle of established social dialogue and collective bargaining as the best ways to improve labor relations.
  • Working to achieve Arab economic integration as a necessary condition for achieving economic and social growth throughout the Arab region.
  • Combating all forms of human trafficking and exploitation in all its forms, including sexual, forced labor or bonded labor, and underground labor and handling.
  • Defending the rights of migrant workers and addressing all forms of discrimination and exploitation to which they may be face.
  • Working to develop youth work, expanding Arab efforts to combat unemployment, fragile work and social exclusion, and defending the interests of young workers and protecting their rights.
  • Working to combat poverty, hunger and exploitation, persecution, corruption, inequality and discrimination.
  • Working to combat child labor, protecting the rights of domestic workers and vulnerable groups, and defending girls and children who are forcibly displaced and exploited in various ways.
  • · Demanding the formulation of a comprehensive and sustainable participatory development policy in the Arab countries in order to consolidate social democracy and achieve a fair distribution of national wealth to ensure the dignity of all workers and social groups.
  • Take all measures to promote and increase trade union affiliation in the Arab region.
  • Strengthening Arab and international trade union solidarity and supporting persecuted trade union movements.
  • Developing the bonds of cooperation and solidarity with civil society organizations, which have the same principles and values of the Arab
  • Trade Union Confederation and the various social movements against the wild liberalism.
  • Defending the rights of people with special needs, working to strengthen them, supporting retirees and protecting their interests and organizing them by trade union.
  • Rejecting all forms of colonialism and foreign interference, supporting all peoples fighting to regain their sovereignty and self-determination, supporting the struggle of Arab and international liberation movements, and defending the right of the Palestinian people to liberate their land and establish their independent state.
